Have you always wondered what the use of a color wheel is? When I was younger I always thought the color wheel was just a quick way to see which colors were complimentary. I also knew that the colors between the primary colors (blue, red and yellow) are the colors you will get when mixing them. Well, now that I'm more experienced, I know there is much more to it! If you didn't already know how to use the color wheel, then I would love to explain it to you, 'cause understanding the color wheel and using these theories in your art can really give your artwork an upgrade!

The very talented singer of the band EME, who happens to be my co-worker, asked me if I could make something for her new apartment. And so I did. During the process of making this painting I wanted to make sure that it would come out the way my co-worker envisioned it so I sent her a picture every now and again to keep her up to date. I thought it would be nice to share those pictures here to show the process from beginning to end and to tell what I've learned from the making of this painting.
I haven't been uploading any blogarticles the past months and I also didn't paint that much in my art journal, like I planned to in my very first article this year about my new years resolutions. So what have I been up to?
In March, I went to Berlin for four days with my boyfriend Niels. I had never been to Berlin before, but everybody always said how great, hip and artistic this beautiful city actually is. I had big expectations and the city didn't disappoint me at all. On the contrary, being an aspiring artist myself, I found the city very inspiring and a true hotspot for artists! And here I'm going to tell you why.
A Fidget Cube is a 6-Sided toy, sort of like a dice, that will keep your restless fingers busy. It's specifically designed for people who can't keep their hands still and fidget all the time.
Since I suffer from Trichotillomania, which is an hair-pulling disorder, I ordered two cubes myself - one for every hand - and received them two weeks ago. If you want to know what I think of them, you should read further. On the first of january this year I wrote a blogpost about 2016 and what my new years resolutions for 2017 are. Now that it's almost april I want to look back on these resolutions, to see if I made something of it. Are you curious as well?
I've spend the past weekend in Berlin and besides sightseeing, couchsurfing, eating and walking around, I also went to some fleamarkets and - here it comes - one of the biggest art supplies shops you can imagine. I bought some things in the big artshop, but also in some other shops and on the market, and although everything I bought is very simple and basic, I like to show you what I bought and what I'm planning to do with it.
Okay.... So I'm a bit ashamed to tell you this, but there hasn't been much art journaling going on the past month. Therefore, I don't have much to show you.
It began so well, the first days of february, but then I was too busy with other things, couldn't find the time, or forgot to bring my artjournal kit along. And if I did take it with me, I didn't have the time for it, or I just didn't feel like painting. One of my new years resolutions was to keep an art journal and paint or draw something every day. Well, although I didn't paint something every single day of the past month, I did paint a lot more then I used to do. I even brought my journal to work, so I could paint in my lunchbreak and in the train back home. To keep myself motivated and to make it more of a habit to paint something every day. From now on I will post an update of my art journal every last day of the month.
Every artist who likes to draw, paint or illustrate, needs a collection of references. Whether you are a very talented and professional artist, or a beginner who is still learning. On my pinterest account I have a board where I collect references, mostly of people, but also of animals, trees and everyday objects. I decided it would be useful to print some of them and put them in a binder, so it would be easier to use them while drawing. Today I would like to show you my binder, cause maybe it will inspire you to make your own.

BLOGOn my blog I write about the process of improving my skills, about grabbing every chance I get to become more experienced and about learning from ups and downs. Besides that, I write about everything that inspires me, like film, photography, paintings and psychology.
