As one of my new years resolutions was to keep an art journal, I had an excellent excuse to go shopping! I needed paint and thingies to take with me, so I didn't have to look for everything in my art studio every day, but could just keep it in my bag and take it with me wherever I go.

I would like to share some interesting art blogs I found while surfing on the internet. Maybe you already know (some of) them, maybe they're new to you. They're all completely different from one another, but to me they're all very inspiring.
I recently moved to a bigger apartment and that I now have my first real art studio! When we heard that we got the apartment, I immediately started looking for inspiration on Pinterest on how to organize all my art supplies in my new art studio. In the meantime, I bought some useful stuff which I would like to show to you. Maybe they will inspire you for your own (future) art studio.
Last year was a year of many first times, fun and excitement. I went couchsurfing in Vienna, visited my brother-in-law in Copenhagen, got a new pair of glasses and two adorable pet rats, worked as a costume assistent on the set of a short film, went to the best hippie party you can imagine, gave filmworkshops to a bunch of kids, moved to a bigger apartemet where I now have my first real art studio - *takes deep breath to break long sentence* - organized an art event and followed a workshop in illustrating childrensbooks.
Do you notice anything? I have done nothing creative for myself. I didn't create. A couple of weeks ago I gave workshops in making a shortfilm on a filmcamp for kids from seven to ten years old. Allthough I didn't have any experience in teaching, it went very well! Ofcourse it helped a lot that the kids were very enthusiastic about filmcamp and could hardly wait to get started.
One of the many dreams I had as a kid, was to illustrate children's books. A friend of mine was working at an educational publisher and she got to write a children's book for a series of books that schools can order for their reading classes. My friend knows how much I like to paint, so she asked the publisher if I could do the illustrations for her book. I had to send some examples of my drawings to the publishers and apparently they thought it was good enough! So, in september 2015 I started making the illustrations for the book, which is called 'Lotta's Rugzak', which is Dutch for 'Lotta's Backpack'. I had almost two months to finish it and here you can read/see the whole process from idea to book.
If you're a writer, you're probably dealing with one writersblock after the other. It can be very frustrating if you don't know where to go with your story, or you don't even know what you want to write about or what kind of character you want to create. Today I would like to give you 10 very easy tips to help you get over your writersblock and get inspired to write!
A few years ago, when I was browsing on the internet, I came across the Buddha Board. I didn't buy it, but I kept thinking about it. I always want to live more 'in the moment', so the Buddha Board seemed to be perfect for me.
When I was in Vienna at the end of januari this year, I came across the Buddha Board again in a nice gift shop. Since I doubted if it would fit in my backpack - I traveled only with hand luggage - I didn't buy it at first. Later that day I went back to that shop and bought it anyway. Now it's already more than a month ago that I bought the Buddha Board and I can say I'm pretty happy with it, there are so many different ways to use it! We live in the centre of Brussels in a medium sized apartment and don't have an extra room where I could have my studio or something, so I usually paint in the kitchen. If you would like to see how I organize my painting stuff in my tiny kitchen, than this is your chance.
No film can make sure that your negative view of the world suddenly disappears. A film that begins in despair and ends in a victory, however, can give you hope when you feel helpless and everything seems to fall apart. If you can identify with characters, or the situations where they are in, then you share their disappointments and thereby all their steps to victory. This way you see reasons for optimism in your own situation. You can gather the courage to do what is necessary in order to change your situation, as was also done in the movie.
I use examples like 'American Beauty', 'Erin Brockovich', 'Normal', 'The Diving Bell and The Butterfly' and 'A Beautiful Mind'. |
BLOGOn my blog I write about the process of improving my skills, about grabbing every chance I get to become more experienced and about learning from ups and downs. Besides that, I write about everything that inspires me, like film, photography, paintings and psychology.
