6 reasons to go to Berlin when you're an artist

In March, I went to Berlin for four days with my boyfriend Niels. I had never been to Berlin before, but everybody always said how great, hip and artistic this beautiful city actually is. I had big expectations and the city didn't disappoint me at all. On the contrary, being an aspiring artist myself, I found the city very inspiring and a true hotspot for artists! And here I'm going to tell you why.

1. It has hundreds of art museums and galleries

Yes, no kidding.
You can find a list of museums and galleries by clicking here.

2. You can do a tour for artists!

GoArt! offers an array of art tours for groups and individuals. The tour guides have a sophisticated understanding of contemporary art, design, architecture and Berlins highlights. They know all the ins and outs about the new developments in fashion, food and lifestyle and are recommended by The New York Times, Vogue, National Geographic and others.
The guides of GoArt! offer exclusive gallery tours, museum visits, runway shows, designer talks, fashion sketching courses, graffiti and stencil workshops, gallery receptions, private studio visits and so much more.

Take a look on their website for more info:

3. There is a lot of street-art.

Actually, the whole city is one big gallery! For instance, you could start at the East Side Gallery to take a look at what many different artists made on the Berlin wall. And from there you could just walk your way through the city, and I can promise you, you will find art on every corner of the street.

4. There is a very cool cultural centre: RAW

The area is populated with different associations in the field of culture, music, theatre and more. There are concerts and slam poetry all year and there frequently is an open air cinema and a flea market in summer. There are also some clubs as Cassiopeia, Astra and the Suicide Circus. Besides all that, there is a climbing garden on the walls of the old bunker with a beergarden and a skateboard hall. Sounds like a lot of fun, right?

5. It has one of the biggest stores for art supplies you can imagine

As you probably already read in a previous article, we went to Modulor, a gigantic shop with art supplies. Unfortunately, I could only buy a few small things, 'cause I didn't have much space left in my backpack. Probably best, cause if I had, I would have bought everything, I suppose.

You can find Modulor at Moritzplatz.
The address is Prinzenstrasse 85, 10969 Berlin
If you're not able to go to Berlin, you can find them online as well: www.modulor.de

6. A lot of artists live in Berlin.

So it's likely you will meet someone who inspires you, wants to work together with you on something great or can help you with certain connections!

When we were in Berlin, we stayed with an artistic couple: a filmmaker and a writer. Their house was a very typical artists house: messy, boho and filled with memories.
If you're planning to go to Berlin, I would recommend to go couchsurfing! We did that too, and it's a perfect way to meet new artistic people. Also, they could recommend you the coolest places to go to!
If you know any more reasons why Berlin is a hotspot for artists, please mention it in a comment below!
