I was looking through my older blogposts and came by a blog I wrote when I just moved into our new apartment in Brussels where I had my very first art studio. It was a shoplog of all the stuff I bought, like furniture and art supplies. And here I am, almost four years later, living in Ghent and realizing I haven't wrote a shoplog in ages! So here it is, some of the art supplies I bought in 2020. It's not everything, cause I buy a lot (one can never have too many art supplies) and I can not remember every little thing.
On my 30th birthday (not relevant) I made this fashion illustration of a queen in a blue eccentric dress. I shared pictures of the process in my Instagram stories, like I do a lot, and I thought: maybe it's nice to share them here as well. For this illustration I worked with the Derwent Inktence coloured pencils and painted with them. This is permanent ink.
Melek her mom booked her a all-in-one portfolio shoot which took place in july. This package contains a 6 hour shoot (but this one took 8 hours, and when this happens I don't charge extra) in studio ánd on various locations nearby. Melek did a wonderful job! I'm officially all grown up now! Mentally, I feel like a 20-year-old and physically I feel like I'm at least 40 (I really need to work out more).
So if we take the average I am indeed 30.
The young aspiring model Elise booked a portraitshoot on location. Alisa Acx, my go-to make-up artist was booked as well! She gave her a beautiful, neutral make up look and then we decided which outfits Elise would wear. There is a bohemian vibe as well as a more fairytale-kinda vibe. In january this year, I began teaching at the Hoofdstedelijk Instituut Anneessens-Funck OKAN in Brussels. OKAN (stands for 'Onthaalklas voor Anderstalige Nieuwkomers') offers foreign students (mostly refugees) a one- or two-year, focused study of the Dutch language through an intense training of the 4 key language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. This makes it possible for the students to smooth the transition into secondary education or adult education (when the students are 17 of older).
They asked me if I would like to make an illustration for the schooldiary of 2020-2021. I'm still a beginner at illustrating so every chance to learn and develop myself is very welcome, so I was very happy for this opportunity! I made 2 illustrations where I did my best to portray different cultures.
On the 26th and 28th of June I had fashionshoots with many kidsmodels around the docks in Ghent. It was very warm, windy but fun and I met a lot of new models who I haven't worked with before. Here you can see some backstage pictures and a few results!
My best friend - and biggest fan of my drawings - Lies, asked me to make an illustrated Christmas portrait of her, together with her fiancé and cat. But ofcourse! I lóve doing these kinds of things, it's very relaxing.
She send me some pictures and I 'morphed' them together (sketch, sketch, sketch) to create the ultimate family picture.
A selection of my work (artistic portraits) will be exhibited in beauty lounge OMORFIA, Hoogstraat 50 in the heart of Antwerp.
You can visit it every day except tuesday from 11h till 19h, untill februari.
Together with a beautiful Congolese model from Amsterdam, Debby Kundenga, and my make-up artist Alisa Acx, I made a very colorful fashion editorial. We worked both in studio and on a simple and sober location nearby my appartment in Ghent. If you are interested in the results (and the brands we worked with), you should read further!
On my blog I write about the process of improving my skills, about grabbing every chance I get to become more experienced and about learning from ups and downs. Besides that, I write about everything that inspires me, like film, photography, paintings and psychology.
