I was born on the third of august in 1990 and grew up on a farm in a small village in Friesland, a province in the north of the Netherlands, where my parents had a store in furniture and worked as interior designers.
As a kid I enjoyed being by myself and just create. I started drawing and painting when I was very small. When I was around twelve years old, I fell in love with photography. I bought a small camera and started photographing myself and my sister and then photoshopped it so it would look more professional. On my sixteenth I bought my first professional mirror reflex photocamera and started photographing friends and family. I got noticed and photography became not only my biggest passion but also my weekend job.
Not only did I love to make pictures, by painting or making photo's, I also enjoyed writing stories. As a kid I wanted to be a writer and thought I had to study journalism to achieve that. So when I was 18 and graduated from middle school, I began studying journalism. I liked it, but I couldn't really express myself in it. I wanted to do something more creative, which made me move to Brussels, Belgium, to study Audiovisual Arts at the film academy.

I made several short films during my studies at the Royal Institute of Theatre, Cinema and Sound (RITCS) that made me decide that psychological drama (and the more therapeutic films) suited me best. I love how a film can make people think about their lives in a different way and can even help them cope with their problems.
During my filmstudies I did a course in Psychology to better understand the human mind and to be able to write more interesting characters. I graduated with my Bachelor in 2013 and did a Masters Degree in Creative Writing / Screenwriting, also at the RITCS. During this year I wrote a feature film about a young woman searching for her own identity, while getting obsessed with someone elses personality.

After I graduated for my Masters in 2014 I did some internships in
the film- and television industry, starting as a screenwriters assistent at Ciné Cri de Coeur in Antwerp. I learned a lot about writing treatments, building up characters and structures. Then I was an Assistent Producer trainee for two months at Caviar Commercials in Brussels, where I did castings, locationhunting, setdressing and so many other things that have teached me a lot. In May 2015 I worked as a location assistent on the set of a Belgian tv show, which gave me a chance to take a closer look behind the scenes of fiction. Later that year I got the chance to illustrate a childrensbook for Die Keure, an educational publisher in Bruges. I really loved doing this and I learned so much from it, that I would love to do it again some day.
In that same year I also started giving art workshops to children on a regular basis. I realised I really loved to teach. In 2018 I began studying the Educative Master in Audiovisual Arts at KASK in Ghent. |
